9 Fall Sick At Motel

TRIADELPHIA - A chlorine leak at a hotel's indoor pool sent nine people, including three children, to local hospitals late Wednesday.

Firefighters and medics from both the Triadelphia and Valley Grove volunteer fire departments responded to the call at about 9 p.m. at the Comfort Inn at 675 Fort Henry Road, Triadelphia.

Fred Misenhelder, Valley Grove Fire public information officer, said the victims were in the pool area when they began to experience symptoms such as burning eyes, sore throat, nausea and vomiting after being exposed to the vapor. While he described these reactions as minor, he said fire and hazardous materials officials recommended the patrons seek medical attention.

"None looked serious. They were walking and talking, and the children were reacting normally," Misenhelder said.

He noted, though, that the hazardous materials guidebook states there could be delayed effects from chlorine exposure. Five people were transported to Ohio Valley Medical and four to Wheeling Hospital. Misenhelder believes the children's ages ranged from 1 to 4 years old.

Misenhelder said he did not believe the incident was related to power outages or weather conditions that left many homes and businesses in the local are without electricity Wednesday.

At press time, firefighters were using instruments to measure the amount of airborne chlorine still in the pool area and to find the origin of the leak. The original call, he noted, indicated the people were closest to a hot tub.

If the hotel apologizes in person and in writing, refunds the room cost, pays for the hospital bills and, perhaps, provides some small consideration for the inconvenience, I would consider the matter settled. Unfortunately, we live in a society where people cannot properly communicate and where complete losers, many of whom can be found in West Virginia, will sue you for looking at them.

I hope that all parties work it out amicably.

We need to sue Obama for the 116 soldiers killed while he calculated a political answer to a war.

Great place to stay. Book a double room and Comfort Inn does all they can to get you a private room (in the hospital). Sure am glad to hear all the patrons seemed to be OK...

Another side effect might be turning white.

Isn't chlorine used in the gas chamber?

hoopie, are you serioulsy advocating that they SUE them for this? I'm sure the owners will compensate the guests and cover their hospital costs. This litigious attitude is at the heart of many of the problems our society has today.

Your right. Comfort Inn should just apologize for making you puke, incurring you a hospital visit, and disrupting your entire trip. Just give them a cookie, pat them on the behind and send them on their way. That's the kind of America WE want! LOL

Sorry for posting twice...BTW, I don't really think this was grounds for a lawsuit, but in today's litigious society, bet me at least one of these people doesn't try to..
