Other States Should Follow Ohio’s Lead

Election and law enforcement officials, along with a private organization, have done an enormous service for Ohio residents. Their work should be emulated by those in other states.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN - has a track record of shady practices in registering people to vote in several states. ACORN is no more than a support group for ultra-liberal politicians.

When evidence of voter registration fraud in Ohio surfaced, law enforcement and election officials investigated. Pressure they put on the group was followed up by the 1851 Center for Constitutional Law, a libertarian center in Columbus. The center filed a lawsuit against ACORN.

Last week a federal judge approved an agreement between the center and ACORN. It calls for ACORN to end its activities in Ohio.

In New York and California, however, ACORN disbanded - then re-established itself using different names. State officials should ensure the organization does not do that in Ohio.

Good for the center, and for law enforcement and election officials in the Buckeye State! Again, their action should be used as a pattern to rid other states of ACORN.
