Heavy rain brings high water to some Ohio roads

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — Residents of many parts of Ohio are grappling with flooded roads and yards thanks to a couple days of heavy rain and storms.

The National Weather Service recorded 3.54 inches of rain at the Cleveland airport on Tuesday — a record for the date. As a result, high water closed part of the Shoreway and also disrupted traffic on sections of Interstate 90, Interstate 71 and roads in several northeast Ohio communities.

High water on some roads around central and southwest Ohio was causing headaches for motorists early Wednesday after a line of heavy thunderstorms rolled through Tuesday.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office reported some sections of major roads in that county north of Columbus were closed early Wednesday because of dangerously high water.
