Don and Cherel Bauer of Wheeling are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today, April 24.
They were united in marriage April 24, 1971 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wheeling.
Cherel Bauer is the daughter of the late JoAnn Calmbacher and stepdaughter of Walt Calmbacher. She works at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack, where she has been employed for 30 years.
Bauer is the son of Catherine Bauer and the late Roy Bauer. He served in the Air Force in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star, coached wrestling to countless youth throughout the years in the Ohio Valley and is retired from the city of Wheeling.
They are the parents of three daughters. The family includes Tracie and her husband, Ron, of Wheeling; Kristie and her husband, Brent, of Wheeling and Dana and her husband, Bryant, of Columbus. They have three grandchildren.
They celebrated with a surprise family dinner held in their honor.
