On May 30, 2011, Americans will observe Memorial Day. In McMechen, W.Va., American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 5 will once again be sponsoring four restored military Jeeps from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Veterans from each of those eras will be riding in these Jeeps.
Anyone out there who has any type of restored military vehicle, Legion Unit 5 would like to have you join our four restored Jeeps.
Please contact any member of Unit 5 or Post 5 by calling 304-559-7878, 304-845-2057 or 740-484-4049.
Line-up will start in front of McMechen Elementary School at 7:30 a.m. and the program and parade will start at 8:30 a.m. ending at the McMechen Cemetery by 10 a.m.
Also, please remember to display your American flags outside your homes. After September 11, 2001 almost every home had an American flag hanging out front in a display of unity and support for our country.
We need to take this occasion to show our patriotism again and thank our veterans and military for their sacrifices in preserving our freedoms. Take your children and grandchildren to see this outstanding display of our history and let them know why we put this day aside as a country to honor our veterans!
