WHEELING - Wheeling firefighters battled a blaze late Monday that consumed 48 Joan St. and spread to an adjacent structure.
About 10 p.m., firefighters were called to the scene and found the building where the fire initially was reported fully engulfed in flames. They quickly worked to contain the fire as it reached a nearby building, attempting to keep it from advancing throughout that structure as well.
The fire department called for traffic to be restricted on National Road in the Fulton area of the city. Heavy smoke from the blaze reduced visibility throughout the neighborhood, and electrical problems were reported at the front of the burning buildings.
