The public is invited to a free health fair 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at East Richland Friends Church, 67885 Friends Church Road, St. Clairsville.
Church member Sheryl Miller, also a nurse, said the fair will offer a variety of screenings, including for diseases that often afflict people in the region, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and stroke.
Some of the tests include blood pressure, blood sugar and eye exams. Free basic CPR classes also are slated at 6 and 7 p.m. To sign up, e-mail Tim Fox, associate pastor, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Miller said the church wanted to hold the fair to help people physically and spiritually and to "make a difference in people's lives." She said the fair will be staffed by local medical professionals, working and retired.
"We will also have book bags for children and supplies for school," Miller said.
A nutrition booth will be set up to help teach about good and bad foods, exercise and overall healthy living.
The fair is part of the church's Mission Week, during which members participate in a variety of activities as an outreach to the community.
"For the last several years, the people of Friends Church have used the last week of July to reach toward those in need with helping hands of God's love. In recent years, we have primarily focused on basic home repair and community cleanup projects. This year we are still doing those types of projects including some home repair, a park cleanup, and the construction of a new community amphitheater. We have, however, decided to combine those efforts with a really fantastic health fair and Helping Hands event that will include free haircuts for families, school supplies and a prayer booth on July 26," Fox said.
