Religious conference draws GOP presidential maybes

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — More than 1,000 people are expected at a daylong religious conference in Iowa — several of them potential candidates for the Republican nomination for president.

The Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday allows presidential hopefuls an opportunity to court Christian conservatives.

The state's evangelical voters traditionally influence Iowa's first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses because they tend to be organized and participate.

Saturday's lineup of speakers includes Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

All have already spent time in the kickoff caucus state.
