Donald and Roberta Henning of Wheeling celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Oct. 21.
They were united in marriage Oct. 21, 1961 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Wheeling.
Roberta Bott Henning is the daughter of the late Anne and Joseph A. Bott of Wheeling. She is a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph Academy. She was employed by Genuine Parts Co. where the couple met in 1958.
Henning is the son of the late Angela and John F. Henning of Wheeling. He is a 1951 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School and attended Ohio University and West Liberty State College. After leaving Genuine Parts Co., he owned and operated Don's Corner Market with his wife. The couple ran the store with family members for over 17 years until they retired in 2005.
They have three children. The family includes Capt. Stacey Henning of Rockville, Md.; Doug and his wife, Nancy, of Baltimore, Md., and Sharon Bilott of Baltimore. They have a granddaughter.
They were surprised by their family and friends with a reception at Our Lady of Lebanon Church hall in Wheeling Saturday, Oct. 22. They were sent to Italy and Austria as a gift to celebrate their second honeymoon.
