Alec Salakovich - Brooke
Senior Alec Salakovich is entering his final season of swimming for the Brooke Bruins in hopes to continue his improvements from past years.
"Alec has really improved every year since his freshman year," Brooke coach Gina Reitter said.
"He's made it to states the past two years and has become one of the best swimmers on the team and he's a big part of our team."
After qualifying in the 50 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 100 backstroke last year for the state championship meet in Morgantown, Salakovich made it to the finals in two of them.
After finishing 19th overall in the 100 back and 18th overall in the 50 freestyle, Salakovich teamed up with Derek Wayne, Kevin Rowland and Josh Harrick to earn two sixth-place finishes in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays with times of 1:36.56 and 3:32.63, respectivly.
This was right after the relay team came away with two third place medals in the same events at the OVAC tournament.
Salakovich also finished that tournament ninth in the 100 backstorke with a time of 1:09.49 and teamed up with Wayne, Rowland and and Harrick again to place fifth overall in the 400 freestyle relay.
"I have high expectations and expect really big things from Alec," said Reitter. "I hope he can become an OVAC or regional or even a state champion either individually or with a relay."
