Magistrate Mark Kerwood Announces Run for Re-Election

Marshall County Magistrate Mark Kerwood has announced his Democrat candidacy for re-election in 2012.

Kerwood said his experience and education are the basis for his successful 27 years as a judicial officer for the people of Marshall County. He holds an undergraduate degree from Wheeling Jesuit University, and a master's degree in the administration of justice from the University of Pittsburgh.

Kerwood said his administration of justice degree has been invaluable in making sound judgments in his judicial duties and the thousands of criminal and civil cases over which he has presided.

Kerwood was an adjunct professor of criminal justice at West Liberty University and West Virginia Northern Community College. Kerwood is a former special agent of the National Crime Information System, originally the Office of Naval Intelligence. He has attended and completed studies at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev., as well as numerous judicial conferences in West Virginia.

Kerwood was recognized by former state Supreme Court Justice Darrell McGraw for outstanding judicial achievement.

Kerwood and his wife, Christine, reside in Glen Dale and have been married for 32 years. They are the parents of three children. Mark and his wife are members of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mount Olivet.

He is a current member of the National Rifle Association, Marshall County Farm Bureau and a volunteer for the Laughlin Chapel Center Summer Horse Camp. Kerwood was the first president of Post 46 Sons of the American Legion in Benwood. He is also a long-time supporter of the St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Mont.

Kerwood is a certified and licensed OVAC football and basketball official and has officiated in the West Virginia state football championships and the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Charity Classic.

Kerwood said he continues to have the passion and dedication to serve the people of Marshall County, and is grateful for their support over the past 27 years.

"It has been my utmost honor and privilege to serve my fellow Marshall Countians and with their support," he said. "I look forward to continuing my service for the people of Marshall County."
