MORGANTOWN - Weir's Kelsey Ferguson is positioned to bring home a pair of West Virginia prep swimming championships today after finishing first Thursday in preliminaries at the state meet at the West Virginia University Natatorium.
Ferguson, a senior, clocked the top time in the 200 IM (2:12.13) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.09).
Wheeling Park sophomore Katlyn Curnes recorded the second-best time in the 100 breast (1:11.28).
In the 200 medley relay, Curnes teamed up with Madie Friday, Stacy Chaplin and CeCe Jebbia to post the third-best time (1:59.91). The Red Riders' (Ferguson, Dominique Gilbert, Allyson Martin, Alexis Virtue) had the sixth-best time (2:00.73).
Park's 400 freestyle relay foursome of Jebbia, Chaplin, Marisa Custer and Curnes posted the sixth-best time (4:00.16).
Individually, Jebbia was fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:04) and the 500 freestyle (5:34.96).
Wheeling Park's boys will look to gain points in three events today.
Noah Salvatore was fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:15.54) and ninth in the 200 free style (1:59).
The Patriots' 200 medley team of Jordan Carman, Donte Defazio, Brandon McLaughlin and Josh Garrett was 12th (1:55.48).
Brooke's foursome of Alec Salakovich, Josh Harrick, Kevin Rowland and Jordan Harlan was fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:48.56) and sixth in the 200 freestyle medley (1:35.01).
Individually for the Bruins, Salakovich was seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:02.11) and eighth in the 50 freestyle (23.92). Josh Harrick was third in the 100 backstroke (57.32) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (50.38). Kevin Rowland posted the ninth-best time in the 100 butterfly (1:02.4).
Wheeling Central's Roger Targosky was 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.21).
