MALSON, Lawrence Albert Sr., "Red," 96, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Lawrence was born August 6, 1915 in Key, Ohio, a son of the late Ebbert Charles and Cassie (Main) Malson.
He was retired from the former Blaw-Knox Foundry, Warwood, and was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wheeling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella (Myers) Malson; second wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Leyland) Malson; two brothers, Marion C. Malson and Sherman Malson; a son-in-law, James "Flip" Taggart; and a grandson, Stephen Taggart.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Rena E. (Carl) Smith Malson; four children, Velma Taggart of Wheeling, Lawrence A. Malson, Jr. and his wife, Sue of West Alexander, Pa., William E. Malson and his wife, Sue of Beech Bottom, W.Va. and Matthew J. Smith, Ph.D and his wife, Susan of South Bend, Ind.; eight grandchildren, James Taggart Jr., Marjorie Harris and her husband, Timothy, Jeffrey Malson Sr. and his wife, Laurie, Ralph "Ed" Malson and his wife, Tammy, Scot Malson, Lynne Merryfield and her husband, Eric, Amy Coulson and her husband, Nick and Michael Malson; two step-grandchildren, Trevor J. Smith and Kent J. Smith; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Friday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling.
Friends will then be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Westphal officiating. Interment will be in Short Creek Cemetery, Wheeling.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16 Ridgecrest Road, Wheeling, WV 26003; or Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943.
