7 Letterwinners are Back for Tyler Baseball

March 23, 2012

KIDWELL - A total of seven returning letter-winners will be joined by a relatively inexperienced group as Tyler Consolidated gets set to begin the 2012 baseball season under Coach Gene Rice.

The Silver Knights finished 7-16 a season ago, once again losing in the sectional tournament to powerful Magnolia. Gone from that squad are Blaise Rice, Garrett Amos, Zach Knowlton, Coty Laugh and Jeremy Headley.

However, the biggest addition to the team may be assistant coach Chris Amedro, a former John Marshall standout who also pitched for West Virginia University for three seasons. Amedro did a lot of strength and conditioning with the players during the winter, something that Gene Rice hopes will only help his team.

Returning lettermen include senior catcher Dakota Allen, senior pitcher-first baseman Justin Carpenter, sophomore second baseman Evan Davis, junior left fielder-pitcher Koty Martin, sophomore right fielder Isaac Michael, junior shortstop-pitcher Dalton Parsons and senior utility man-pitcher Dalton Wells.

The remainder of the roster will be made up of seniors Braxton Brown (CF, RF) and Tyler Highly (3rd base, pitcher); juniors Austin Dillon (1st base, RF), Lucas Houle (RF, LF), Quinten Keller (OF) and Cecil Spencer (1st base, pitcher).

Sophomores are Dakota Breneman (LF, catcher), Austin Brown (LF, catcher), Cole Kocher (2nd, LF) and Bobby Moore (2nd base). Freshmen are Tyler Knox (shortstop, RF) and David Litten (1st base).

"We lost some kids to graduation and there are only seven returning lettermen to work with," Rice said. "On top of that there are an awful lot of inexperienced kids that came out this year.
