Knights’ Softball Team Focusing on Fundamentals

KIDWELL - Veteran Tyler Consolidated softball coach Charlene Galluzzo heads into the 2012 campaign having lost four starters from a season ago, showing just one senior on the roster and feeling like her team could be ready to make a run by the time tournament time rolls around.

A strong junior class and a sophomore group that Galluzzo is very excited about might just be the difference-maker for a team coming off a 4-13 record and playing their final season in a very strong Class AA sectional and regional.

The only senior on the roster is a three-year letterman and two-year starter in third baseman Jennifer Yost. There are five juniors, all of whom will start and three who are returning starters.

Torrye Cline has been a two-year starter and will be the top option in the circle while also spending time at short. Also returning are shortstop Taylor Clem and right fielder Tayler Vossen.

Junior Martina Parrish will be at first base while Carle Stewart will be a utility player that will be in the lineup somewhere.

Half of the eight sophomores on the team will land starting spots while the other four will also see playing time.

Myah Charkawi will be behind the plate with Megan Carpenter will patrol center, Alex Bubenchik at second base and Jasmine Moore in left field. Jasmine Moore, and her twin sister Devinn, will both also see time in the circle.

The other three sophomores are Bailey Smith (OF), Shandi Long (OF, 3B, PH) and Kali Mead (OF, 2B, PH) while a pair of utility freshmen include Kaycee Bandaries and Lilli Orr.

Gone from 2011 are Heather Suter, Amanda Goodfellow, Mallory Hammond and Emily Moore.
