OVAC Is Goal For PC

PADEN CITY - If there's one thing Paden City's softball team won't lack, it's camaraderie.

Like most small-town schools, Paden City's girls' sports programs have many of the same names. A look at the softball roster proves this.

The bulk of the players also competed in volleyball and basketball together. The volleyball team won an OVAC Class A tournament title this past season.

''They look strong and they work well together,'' Wildcats coach Jeanne Fox said.

Will togetherness translate into victories? Fox isn't sure. But she knows it sure helps.

''We want to make it to the OVAC Tournament this year and we believe we can,'' she said. ''The girls want to win and they have the skills and attitude to be able to do so.

''I think our strengths are: our girls are working as a team, upperclassmen are great leaders, we are young and eager to learn and we have four pitchers.

Already with a few games under their belt this season, Fox likes the look of her starting lineup. The group consists of junior Kelsey Loy (P), senior Dominique Craft (C), freshman Amber Neff (SS), freshman Hannah Stanley (2B), senior Amanda Heasley (3B), freshman Graeson Baker (1B), freshman Kayla Hizer (CF), freshman Tori Anderson (LF) and freshman Kayla Barker (RF).

''We are fortunate to have many players that can play multiple positions,'' Fox said. ''We are a very young team with three returning letterwinners.''

The Wildcats finished 9-13 last season.

Fox, a Sistersville native, is assisted by Vance Ash, another Sistersville native.

''What has impressed me the most about the girls are their enthusiasm and positive attitudes,'' Fox said.
