Lloyd Cottrell

COTTRELL, Lloyd F., 68, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Ohio Valley Medical Center.

He was born November 27, 1943 in Oka, WV, a son of the late M.D. (Mac) and Imogene Lloyd Cottrell.

Lloyd enlisted in the Army in 1961 and was assigned to Berlin, Germany, as the "Wall" was being built. After Berlin, he was with the Old Guard, Ft. Myers, VA. He had two tours of duty in Vietnam and numerous tours in Germany, Italy and Korea besides numerous assignments statewide. Lloyd retired from the military as a Master Sergeant after 26.5 years of active duty.

From 1990 until 2008, he owned a lawn care business, loved golfing, fishing and watching the Mountaineers.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Edith Saar Cottrell; two sons, Lloyd A. "Tony" and his wife Brenda, of Stevenson Ranch, CA, Alexander S. "Alex" of Wheeling; six grandchildren; Tiffany, Cory, and Bradley of Wheeling, Zachary, Devon and Sierra of CA and a great-granddaughter, Maddison of Wheeling.

Also surviving are four brothers, Joseph and Jackie (Nancy) of Newton, WV, Ralph (Nancy) of Atwater, OH, Mack (Pat) of Mogadore, OH; two sisters, Mary (Jerry) Patchin of Hartville, OH and Elizabeth (Cary) Ehrenfeld of Pittsburgh, PA; and his mother-in-law, Elfriede Saar and brother-in-law, Robert Saar, both of Germany.

Friends will be received on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Glen Baker, Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors.
