WHEELING - As gasoline prices near the $4 per gallon mark, those hoping to keep their yards looking good this year may be interested in new lithium battery powered lawn mowers.
"On a single charge, this lawn mower can cut the equivalent of three tennis courts," said Ed Hawkins, owner of True Value Hardware in Wheeling. "The Worx products are really nice machines."
Hawkins said the lithium battery powered products are comparable in price to traditional gasoline powered lawn mowers, but require much less maintenance and have a lighter feel.

Ed Hawkins, owner of True Value Hardware in Wheeling, shows off one of the new lithium battery powered Worx lawn mowers at his shop, above right, and above, one of the new lithium battery powered Worx weed trimmers.
"They are easy to start," he said, demonstrating the simple technique of sliding the key into the "on" position. "You don't need to worry about gas, oil, spark plugs, filters, or any of that kind of stuff. All you do is turn it on and mow."
In addition to the lawn mowers, there are also battery powered weed trimmers and hedge trimmers for consumers to consider.
"These are also lighter than the gas versions, and they are easier to use," Hawkins said.
Hawkins said his store also features different sizes and models of tractors, string trimmers, chainsaws, pressure washers and all other power tools needed to care for a lawn.
"This is the big time. Everyone wants to work on their yards now," he said. "We carry everything you need for your yard, and if by chance we don't have it, we can get it for you."
Hawkins said the Husqvarna products the company sells and services are of premium quality. The chainsaws and lawn mowers are particularly popular.
As for hand tools, True Value sells rakes, shovels and other lawn and garden accessories. There also is plenty of grass seed, soil, bug killer, weed killer, concrete and other products.
"If you are working on your lawn, you are coming to the right place," Hawkins added.
