WHEELING - The Ohio County Board of Education named Amy Minch as the next Wheeling Park High School principal Monday.

Minch is currently one of the school's assistant principals and will take over for Bernie Dolan, who has been named Ohio County Schools' next assistant superintendent.

"I pledge to you that as the principal of Wheeling Park High School, I will set high standards for the education provided to our students, offer constant support to every child and continue the legacy of success at Wheeling Park. I will always keep the park spirit alive and our students first," Minch said.

Minch is a 1989 Wheeling Park graduate and has taught in the Ohio County school system for 18 years. She began as a teacher at Madison Elementary School and also served as Bridge Street Middle School principal, among other roles.

"Ms. Minch is a proven leader," said Ohio County Schools' Superintendent George Krelis. "She's dedicated to the students of Ohio County Schools, and that has been the case since her first day of teaching. Amy's work ethic is tremendous, and all those qualities make her an outstanding role model for the students of Wheeling Park High School."

Meanwhile, Wheeling Park seniors with outstanding academic records next year will be able to participate in the Advanced Academy of West Virginia at West Liberty University. The program offers students dual enrollment in high school and the university's honors college. Classes will be held at West Liberty's Highlands Center.

The board also approved the state's grant of $779,000 as a part of the funds for instructional improvement. This year's amount is a $51,742 increase from last school year. Krelis said much of the funds have been used, and will continue to be used, to improve technology throughout the school system.
