WHEELING - Local Boy Scout troops are asking golfers to mark their calendars for May 24, when United Bank sponsors ''Scramble for Scouting'' at the Palmer Course at Oglebay, with proceeds benefiting the Ohio River Valley Council Boy Scouts of America.

You don't have to be involved in scouting to play in this event; all players are welcome to come and enjoy a day of golf. The scramble begins at 11 a.m. with lunch provided by Subway courtesy of John Angus and lunch beverages provided courtesy of Royal Hydraulics, followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner sponsored by Shumar's Welding & Machine Service Inc., will take place at Haller Shelter immediately after, with food prepared by Undo's.

Cash prizes of $400, $200 and $100 will be awarded for top gross scores with no handicap. There will be skill prizes given, a chance to win a new car for a hole-in-one sponsored by Robinson Automotive Group, a beat-the-pro contest sponsored by Lemac Mine Services, along with a 50/50 drawing and a prize raffle sponsored by R.M.
