Your vote matters, it has been said countless times in urging area residents to go to the polls for elections. Confirmation of that was provided this week after Ohio County officials finished their canvass of votes in the May 8 Wheeling municipal election.
Results of the vote canvass ratified the initial count in the race for City Council from the Second Ward. Vote tallies reported election night were correct - with Ken Imer winning the council seat by just two votes. His 175 votes defeated Charles Ballouz, who received 173 votes.
Think about that: Had just three of Imer's supporters stayed home May 8 instead of going to the polls and casting ballots for him, he would have lost the election. Conversely, three more votes for Ballouz would have won it for him.
Individual votes matter, especially in local elections. Remember that the next time you are urged to vote.
