American flags throughout the nation and state banners across West Virginia were flying at half-staff Tuesday, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The day honored law enforcement officers - including dozens from the Ohio Valley - who have died in the line of duty down through the years.
Day in and day out, law enforcement is among the most hazardous of professions. Unfortunately, it also is among the most important. Without brave, dedicated men and women standing in their way, criminals would control our society.
We salute the fallen, then, along with those who continue to serve.
