WOODSFIELD - Police said 32-year-old Derek Robertson of Clarington died late Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle on Ohio 78 near Woodsfield.
Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol's St. Clairsville post said Robertson was lying in the roadway when 59-year-old John Paulus of Woodsfield struck him while traveling west in a 2001 Ford Windstar. Robertson may have been under the influence of alcohol when he died, investigators said.
Alcohol is not suspected as a contributing factor for Paulus, who was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.
Additional responders included Monroe County Assistant Coroner Dave Kuhn, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and Woodsfield Fire Department.
