Senior, Linsly
Stephens repeats as an All-Valley captain after finishing his prep career with a flourish for Coach Jay Cartwright. Stephens led the Cadets in almost every offensive statistic, highlighted by his .533 batting average and .967 slugging percentage. He also paced Linsly in at-bats (92), runs scored (40), hits (49), doubles (12) and triples (5). He was second in RBI (34) and third in home runs (6). A threat on the basepaths, Stephens topped the Ohio Valley in stolen bases (33) and was the overwhelming team leader in total bases (89).
Tri-Captain
Todd Schmidt
Senior, John Marshall
Schmidt returns to the All-Valley first team after a record-setting season for Coach Bob Montgomery. The outfielder was among the leaders in almost every All-Valley offensive statistic. His valley-leading 60 hits in 38 games are a John Marshall record, eclipsing the former mark of 57 set in 32 games by Trent Lehasky in 2003. Schmidt topped JM with a .476 batting average, 26 stolen bases and had on-base percentage of .529. He slapped 10 doubles, two triples and three homers to go along with 26 RBI, 11 of which came with two outs.
Spenser Sninchak
Senior, Toronto
Toronto and veteran Coach Brian Perkins posted another fine season thanks to the powerful infielder. Sninchak, who will play collegiately at Wheeling Jesuit, posted a school-record .547 batting average for the Red Knights en route to also earning first team All-OVAC, All-Eastern District and All-Ohio accolades. Sninchak collected 41 hits, including three homers and 14 doubles. He compiled 34 RBI and boasted a slugging percentage of .853.
Kyle Elliott
Junior, Magnolia
Elliott shined at the plate and on the mound for veteran Coach Dave Cisar in helping lead the Blue Eagles back to the West Virginia Class AA Region One final. Elliott led Magnolia in triples (6), runs scored (39), was second in batting average (.435), hits (37) and RBI (33), and was tied for third in doubles (7). On the mound, Elliott boasted a 5-3 mark with a team-leading 2.04 ERA in a little more than 58 innings pitched with a team-high 63 strikeouts.
Wylie Koontz
Senior, Bishop Donahue
Bishop Donahue's resurgence as a baseball power came partly as a result of the season Koontz had. An All-OVAC performer, Koontz sported a .461 batting average for first-year coach Bob Kleeh along with 41 hits, which included eight homers (second in the valley), nine doubles and a triple. Koontz, who will continue his academic and athletic careers at Ohio Valley University, scored 29 runs, drove in 42 runs and posted an on-base percentage of .514.
Leighton Gibson
Senior, Linsly
Gibson returns to the All-Valley first team after another fine season anchoring the Cadets' infield. Gibson knocked in a team-leading 39 runs while batting .374. He belted 34 hits, including six doubles, two triples and seven homers, second on the team to Michael Joseph's 11. Gibson scored 26 times and his on-base percentage of .714 was second on the club.
Jeff Hissam
Senior, Oak Glen
Hissam hit well and hit for power for Coach Lou Nagy as the Golden Bears claimed a sectional crown. Hissam's .544 batting average was third in the Ohio Valley, two spots behind teammate Steven Barr's .628. Hissam pounded out eight doubles and four triples.
Ryan Walton
Junior, Magnolia
Magnolia was within a game of returning to the West Virginia Class AA state tournament and Walton was one of the reasons. The centerfielder paced the Blue Eagles with a .456 batting average and paced Cisar's squad with 47 hits. He collected two homers, three triples and knocked in 18 runs while scoring 35. The team's leadoff batter, Walton was a perfect 14-of-14 in stolen bases and only struck out five times.
Aaron Fonner
Senior, John Marshall
If Montgomery needed power, Fonner was usually there to provide it. The versatile Monarch led the team with six home runs, 42 RBI and a .682 slugging percentage. He also clubbed 45 hits, including six doubles and three triples, and scored 25 runs. His on-base percentage of .459 was second-best on the team. On the mound, Fonner pitched in four games, but won two of those with 22 strikeouts.
Chris Duerr
Senior, Weirton Madonna
Duerr did the job behind in the plate in helping manage one of the Ohio Valley's top pitching staffs. He boasted a .337 batting average with 31 hits, eight doubles, three homers and 25 RBI. Duerr also scored 22 runs and stole five bases for Coach Jeff Baire.
Steven Barr
Senior, Oak Glen
Barr put up some remarkable numbers in helping lead the Golden Bears to the West Virginia Class AA Region One semifinals. The stat that topped them all was his .628 batting average, far and away the best in the Ohio Valley this season. His 16 doubles were also an Ohio Valley best. In addition, he slapped three triples and knocked in 46 runs. On the mound for Nagy's squad, Barr was 5-3 with a 2.21 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched.
Mitchel French
Senior, Cameron
French returns to the All-Valley first team after serving as a catalyst on the mound and at the plate for Coach Eric James. French led the Dragons in hits (41), singles (27), doubles (25), runs scored (40), stolen bases (25) and batting average (.456). He also belted five doubles, five homers and plated 29 runs. French pitched the most innings for the Dragons (62.6) and tied for the team lead in victories (7). He fanned 60 and posted a 2.63 ERA.
Logan Linder
Senior, Weirton Madonna
Linder returns to the first team after helping lead Weirton Madonna to its second West Virginia Class A championship in three seasons. The OVAC Class A Player of the Year sported a team-leading .476 batting average with 50 hits, 11 doubles, a triple and seven homers. He knocked 34 runs and crossed the plate 34 times himself. A member of one of the valley's top pitching staffs, Linder had a 7-4 mark with a 1.99 ERA and a team-best 70 Ks.
Sam Vincenzo
Senior, St. Clairsville
Vincenzo is a repeat All-Valley first-teamer after helping fuel the Red Devils' trip to the Ohio Division III 'Elite Eight.' A first team All-OVAC performer for Coach Tom Sliva, Vincenzo was a force on the mound and at the plate. He struck out 108, finished with a 6-3 record, a save, and a 1.83 ERA. At the plate, Vincenzo batted .380 with 35 hits, eight doubles, three triples and 31 runs scored.
Momo Felt
Junior, Linsly
Felt was born in the United States, but spent the bulk of his childhood growing up in Germany. When his dad, Chad, took a job at Linsly, he came with him and played an important role for the Cadets. Felt finished with a sparkling 9-1 record and an ERA of 1.41. He recorded 54 strikeouts, including a season-high 12 against Wheeling Central.
Jimmy Panella
Senior, Steub. Catholic
A first-team All-OVAC pick, Panella was the ace of Coach Don Young's pitching staff. Panella finished with a sparkling 8-1 record with a 1.07 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched. He also excelled at the plate, pounding out 31 hits and finishing with a .369 batting average.
Ralph King
Senior, Toronto
Perkins had plenty of stars at the plate, but King was a steady presence on the mound. King sported an 8-1 record with a 1.51 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
Nick Breen
Senior, Brooke
Breen capped his prep career with a fourth appearance as member of the All-Valley first team. Breen led Coach Ron Ujich's team with a .436 batting average. He compiled 23 singles, nine doubles, a triple and a homer to go along with 28 RBI and 28 runs scored.
Kalob Davis
Senior, Shenandoah
A first-team All-OVAC selection, Davis was a jack-of-all-trades for the Zeps, performing solidly behind the plate and on the mound. Davis batted .407 with 33 hits, eight doubles, 30 RBI and 23 runs scored. He stole 13 bases and posted a 4-0 pitching mark.
