Thelma Cook

COOK, Thelma Della Stephens, 98, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at her residence.

She was born on April 25, 1914, the daughter of the late George W. and Minnie McCready Stephens.

Thelma was a retired cook for Marshall County Schools and Protestant by faith. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering and gardening. She loved the birds, as well as playing cards and dominoes. She played UNO every night. She also took great pride in the farm on Big Wheeling Creek, which she and her husband worked for many years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Cook, in 1995, infant son, Gary Wayne, two brothers, Chester and Nile, two sisters, Garnet Conaway and Olive DeGarmo.

Thelma is survived by her children, Robert L. Cook (Florence) of Valley Grove, WV, Shirley A. Hadron (William) of Bridgeport, WV, Jerry B. Cook (Sally) of Wheeling, WV, and Cindy L. Kent (Terry) of Wheeling, WV; two sisters, Joyce Humphrey of North Carolina and Helen Jean McMahon (Richard) of Columbus, Ohio.

She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Sharon Cook, Susan Nicholson, Julie Perine, Janet Hathaway, Jerry Cook, Tammy Miller, Christine Dodd, Terry Phillips, Scott Cook, Ben Mosa, and Erik Kent; 25 great-grandchildren, and one great- great-granddaughter.

The family of Thelma would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Melody Morris and Cindy Alaminski.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311) where services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Jeff Perine officiating.

Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, WV.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Amedisys Hospice Service, 1251 Warwood Ave, Wheeling, WV 26003.
