E. June Jefferson

JEFFERSON, E. June Warner, 94, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Saturday, June, 30, 2012, at Peterson Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 17, 1918, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Henry J. and Flora C. Altherr Warner.

June was a graduate of Wheeling High School, a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, and a former employee of the Stone and Thomas Department Store.

From 1942-1945 during WWII, she worked for the U.S. Army Engineering Corps as a ammunition inspector in Wheeling and Kingwood, W.Va., and the Marx Toy Factory in Glen Dale, W.Va. In 1951-1952, during the Korean War, she was an inspector at the Shadyside Stamping Plant.

June was a member of the Tau Sigma Sorority, the Woman's Catholic Club, which met at the Catholic League Building, Wheeling, and the Genealogical Club. She was also a member of the Wheeling Park, Oglebay Park, Highland Springs, and Moundsville Country Club ladies golf clubs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, legendary Ohio Valley Golfer, Fred T. Jefferson on January 30, 2009; and one sister, Catherine "Babe" Warner Anderson.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including, Barbara Jean (Paul) Cataldi, Mary Lou (John) Hiles, Mary Frances Sberna, Michael (Joyce) Jefferson, Frank Sberna, Janet (Robert) Perry; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. William Matheny Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
