ASHBY, Lloyd Edward, 86, of Cameron, WV, died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Belmont Manor, St. Clairsville, OH.

He was born January 22, 1926 in Cameron, a son of the late Jolly and Icie Mae Staley Ashby.

Lloyd was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service; a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, achieving the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Purple Heart. He was Senior Vice-Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 710; a member of the American Legion Post 18 of Cameron, the Disabled American Veterans, Post 626 of Bellaire, OH, and the Moundsville Honor Guard. He was a member of the Wolf Run Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Artie B. Ashby; three sisters, Thelma L. Morris, Mildred V. Cook and Wilma L. Bungard.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Doloris Whipkey Ashby; two sons, Larry E. (Linda) Ashby of Cameron and Terry D. (Jody) Ashby of Blairs Ridge, WV; a daughter, Penny L (Larry) McCracken of Cameron; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 with Pastor Jim Higginson officiating.

Interment in Wolf Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Cameron.

Military honors will be presented by the Moundsville Honor Guard.
