The 17th Annual Mountaineer Hilltop Golf Classic, sponsored by the Belmont-Mountaineer Athletic Club, will pay tribute to the late Bill Stewart, WVU's former head football coach who passed away earlier this spring.
The announcement was made by long-time BMAC official John Budinscak.
"While Coach Stewart's recent death was tragic and unexpected, we felt it appropriate to conduct our annual golf outing in his memory," Budinscak said. "Not only was Coach Stewart a 'valley boy,' he was loved by Mountaineer fans everywhere."
Budinscak announced this year's golf scramble is scheduled Thursday, Aug. 9 at the Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course located near Mt. Pleasant, Ohio.
Scheduled tee times are 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. BMAC will attempt to accommodate time preferences whenever possible.
"We're inviting all Mountaineer fans and those who loved Coach Stewart to consider entering the tournament and enjoying a great day of golf and other activities," Budinscak stated.
The $50 fee (per player) includes 18 holes of golf, 1/2 cart, prizes, beverages and a picnic which follows the scramble. Individual entries are encouraged and playing partners will be assigned the morning of the event.
Budinscak noted individual and corporate sponsors are available at $100 per hole. Proceeds will be applied to BMAC's Upper Ohio Valley Endowed Athletic Scholarship (which has raised over $50,000) and other related BMAC events.
Additionally, a $10 donation drawing will be held with the winner receiving a pair of tickets to two 2012 West Virginia football games.
BMAC annually awards athletic endowment scholarships and have made presentations to several Ohio Valley Mountaineer athletes including Liz Repella, Zach Cooper, Alyssia DeSantis and Dominic Prezzia.
Entry forms are available by contacting Budinscak at (740) 695-2544 or BMAC official John S. Marshall (740) 695-4262.
In case of rain, the scramble will be played Thursday, Aug. 16.
