ABPLANALP, Harry August, Jr., 80, of Elm Grove passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Liza's Place.
He was born April 20, 1932, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Harry A. Abplanalp, Sr. and Elizabeth Schad Abplanalp.
Harry was a retired courier for WesBanco Bank, Wheeling, and was a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was a high school graduate of Triadelphia High School and a college graduate of West Virginia University.
He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a Deacon and member of Church Council. He was a member of the Valley Grove Lions Club; WVU Alumni Band; WVU Alumni Association; A.A.R.P.; Kappa Kappa Psi Band Honorary; and a member of the Wheeling Jaycees.
The family was truly blessed because Harry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Elsie Burley Abplanalp.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Mae Myers Abplanalp; a son, Paul M. Abplanalp of Wheeling; a daughter, Heidi A. Watkins and her husband, Howard, Jr. of Triadelphia, WV; two grandsons, Brandon Watkins and his girlfriend, Caroline McCabe and her daughter, Lilly, and Blake Watkins and his girlfriend, Samantha Pellerite; two sisters, Ruth Kidwell of Baltimore, MD, and Virginia Magers of Moundsville, WV; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received on Friday, July 13, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home (304-242-2311), 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling, and then again on Saturday, July 14, 2012, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, 141 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, with the Reverend Alvin Schafer officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
