Prior to turning pro, Farrer played in parts of three seasons of junior hockey with the AJHL's Calgary Canucks, on his way to attending Providence College, where he majored in Management while also playing hockey for four years.

During his time with the Friars, the Calgary, AB, native picked up five goals, 21 assists, and 26 points in 105 games.

At the conclusion of his collegiate career, Farrer appeared in one game for the Trenton Devils before going to Wheeling for the 2011-12 campaign. The professional game turned out to be a perfect match for Farrer, as he netted 11 goals and 19 points in 57 games, while earning a reputation for being one of the squad's best penalty killers.

''I am very happy to be heading back to a good team with a great group of guys from last year,'' Farrer said. ''I am excited about what this team is capable of, as we have a good core group of veteran players returning.

''I am looking forward to seeing all the fans and being a part of some exciting hockey games for them to enjoy.''
