LITTLETON - A 29-year-old Massachusetts man remains in critical condition at a Morgantown hospital after being shot multiple times while visiting family members Sunday night in Littleton.
According to West Virginia State Police Sgt. J.E. Shriver, a late-1990s model Chevrolet, possibly a Monte Carlo or a Thunderbird, arrived at about 9:30 p.m. at a residence at the north end of town near the former railroad track bed above U.S. 250. The victim reportedly had spoken with one of the occupants in the car and was walking back to the home he was visiting when a black man got out of the vehicle with a small-caliber pistol and fired two or three shots, striking the victim in the torso area.
The suspect then returned to the vehicle, which reportedly contained at least three other people. As the car pulled away, at least four more shots were fired from the vehicle toward the residence.
The victim, whose name police have not released, was taken by helicopter to a Morgantown hospital.
At press time, the man was in critical condition.
"At this time, we have theories and possible motives. We believe this was an isolated incident," Shriver said. "The suspects are not from this area. They knew exactly where they were going and who they were there to see."
Shriver said there were four people in the residence, including the victim, at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.
According to Shriver, state police Cpl. W.D. Henderson is leading the investigation with assistance from the Wetzel County Sheriff's Department.
