MORRISON, Dr. Richard Harvey, 81, of Triadelphia, WV, passed away July 20, 2012 unexpectedly at home.
He was a lifelong educator in the WV Higher Education System and a Methodist.
He was born in Barboursville, WV on November 24, 1930 to William Earl Morrison and Crystal Faye Dunkle Morrison and attended Barboursville High School in Cabell County, WV.
He was a member of FFA and awarded a Merit Award as a Member, House of Delegates of Mountaineer Boy's State in 1947.
He attended Ohio State briefly and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Marshall College (now University) in 1952. He enlisted in the US Army June 1952 and served two years in Indiantown Gap, PA and Berlin, Germany as Company Clerk until discharge July 1954.
He attended West Virginia University and earned a Masters and then Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1964. He instructed at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy 1964-65 and returned to WV to join faculty of West Liberty State College in 1966. He transferred to West Virginia Northern Community College and was instrumental in its inception as a neighborhood community college in 1972. He instructed at the Hazel-Atlas, B&O, New Martinsville, and Weirton campuses. He became Professor Emeritus in 1995 and enjoyed farming, ceaseless reading, and being a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, KB8VPI. He held professional memberships in the West Virginia Academy of Science, the American Chemical Society, and the Society of Sigma Xi. He participated in numerous seminars and councils for the National Science Foundation and the American Chemical Society, including a summer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Honorable Gaston Caperton for 35 years of Dedicated State Service May 4, 1995.
He was preceded in death ten months earlier by his dear wife of 54 years, Geraldine Roberta Rumble Morrison and one brother, Harold Earl Morrison.
Surviving is an adult son, Richard Earl Morrison of Charleston, WV, and adult stepdaughter, Shirley Broyles of Woodland, CA. along with one brother, Ronford Dale Morrison of Huntington, WV. and six sisters: Dora May Gillespie of Barboursville WV, Mary Helen Ransom of Huntington, WV, Ruth Ilene Meadows of Ona, WV, Faye Marie Campbell of Cincinnati, OH, Rosalie Morse of Albuquerque, NM, and Carol June Rusmiselle of Simi Valley, CA.
Interment was at Park View Memorial Gardens in Wheeling, WV July 27, 2012 in a private family ceremony.
