Alonzo Farmer

FARMER, Alonzo, 91, of New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on December 30, 1920 in Wellsburg, WV, a son of the late John R. and Grace Darby Farmer.

Alonzo was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and was a lifelong member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

He and his wife of 65 years, Flora Jane Smith Farmer, attended Wellsburg High School together and were married at their alma mater, Bethany College. Lon and Flora have resided in New Martinsville since 1948 when Lon came to work at PPG, Natrium, as a Chemist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Ambrose and two sisters, Georganna and June.

Surviving in addition to his wife Flora Jane Smith Farmer are two children, Carol Farmer Blum and her husband Dr. Donald and Lon Kyle Farmer and his wife Colleen; three grandchildren: Anna Blum, Aaron Blum and Christian Farmer.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held during the Thanksgiving holidays at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Grisell Funeral Home, New Martinsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Martinsville United Methodist Church, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr., New Martinsville, WV 26155.
