GEISLER, Capt. Larry G., 76, of Duffy, OH, died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the New Martinsville Care and Rehab Center, New Martinsville, WV.
He was born February 8, 1936 in Duffy, the son of the late Harry and Vesta Potts Geisler.
Larry was a 1954 graduate of Hannibal High School; a retired river boat captain as well as owner of Valley Boat Docks and Valley Marine Service in Duffy, selling fuel and other supplies to the river traffic.
He built his first steel hull when he was only 21 years old and began work in the towboat business. Larry worked his boat on all phases of the construction of the Hannibal Locks and Dam as well as the Hydro Plant; towed barges during the construction of the New Martinsville bridge and when old Lock 15 was demolished, to name a few. Larry had an extensive knowledge of the river and its history.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Garnet (Guy) Robertson.
Survivors include a nephew, Ray Robertson of Cicero, IL; a niece, Linda (Ken) Jelinek of Middleton, WI; and several cousins.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Jerry Yost officiating.
Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.
