WHEELING - The Wheeling-based Ohio River Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America has announced Murray Energy Corp. will be the sponsor of its annual Partnership Dinner for the next three years.
Robert E. Murray, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Murray Energy will be the featured speaker at this year's event 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at Glessner Auditorium at Wilson Lodge, Oglebay Park.
Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., an Eagle Scout himself, will also be in attendance. He has had a long and distinguished association with the Boy Scouts and was last year's Partnership Dinner featured speaker.
According to organizers, Gulfport Energy and McKinley-Carter Wealth Services have already committed as major donors. Many of the major figures in the local energy business will be participating as well.
Robert Drury, local council scout executive, said, "The level of commitment of Murray Energy to this event is the single most important thing about it. It's our hope and goal that we can generate sustainable financial support due to Murray's three-year commitment."
He noted the Partnership Dinner is the single largest fundraiser for the council each year.
Murray has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Business and holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Degree from Ohio State University. In addition he is a licensed professional engineer and private pilot.
Murray and his family have a long history of support for and involvement with the Boy Scouts. His three sons were all scouts and his son Ryan is an Eagle Scout. Murray served several years as vice president of District Operations for the Northern Lights Council in North Dakota and later served as an assistant scoutmaster for a troop in the Cleveland area.
His son, Ryan, who is vice-president of operations for Murray Energy, is a member of the Executive Board of the Ohio River Valley Council. He will serve as vice chairman of this year's Partnership Dinner. Those wanting to attend this year's dinner are asked to call the Boy Scout office at 304-277-2660, or email for an invitation and information on sponsorship levels at firstname.lastname@example.org.
"We're looking forward to an enjoyable evening," Drury said.
