Wheeling City Council should adopt a recommendation by its Rules Committee, made this week, on residency requirements for municipal employees.
Currently, city workers must reside in Ohio County. That has limited the pool of people from whom municipal employees, sometimes for jobs requiring specialized training, can be sought.
In addition, it has led to the strange situation of having to turn down potential new hires who live just a few minutes away from the city, but in Marshall or Brooke counties.
Rules committee members suggest allowing city employees to live in northern Marshall or southern Brooke counties, as well as Ohio County. The change should be approved.
