The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

PYLE, Charles Chester, 64, of McMechen, WV, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at home.

He was born January 12, 1948, a son of the late James Amos and Mary Martha Cree Pyle, and raised on Boggs Run, Benwood, WV.

Charles was a 1967 graduate of Union High School, Benwood, and an employee of the Shoemaker Mine for 39 years. He was also a former employee of the McMechen and Benwood Police Departments. He was an active member of Boggs Run and McMechen volunteer fire departments; a lifetime member of the Marshall County FOP Lodge #112; an honorary member of the Woman's Club of McMechen because of his hard work on their projects.

A member of St. James Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, he lived his life according to the Golden Rule, treating others like he wanted to be treated, and helping when he could. He was known for plowing snow on his 4-wheeler and working with the summer youth program to clean up the city.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and George; his in-laws, Cora and Chalky Bowman.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Ann, at home; step-son, Brian (Annette) Black and two grandchildren, who brought him much joy and love, Samantha and Brody Black, all of Columbus, OH; a brother, John (Theresa) Pyle, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Pyle, all of Wheeling; a sister, Carolyn (Wade) Richey, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Jackie Bennett, all of McMechen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Kathryn Bowman, of Moundsville; several nieces and nephews, including Elle Canestraro, who helped take care of Uncle Charlie.

The family thanks all of the wonderful staff of Amedysis Hospice Care, who took excellent care of him, especially his BFF's, Rhonda, Nickie and Cheryl.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the McMechen Volunteer Fire Dept., because they were his special family.

Friends will be received from 2-8 Friday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, where the McMechen VFD will hold services at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, with Rev. Bekeh Utietiang officiating.
