Country Not Better Off Under Obama

September 17, 2012
The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

More than 46 million Americans lived below the federal poverty line in 2011, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In comparison, about 39 million Americans lived in poverty in 2008.

When he took office, President Obama promised to fix the economy. It's clear from the data that his economic policies have failed.

West Virginians and Ohioans understand that. The Census Bureau reports that 16.7 percent of all West Virginians have lived in poverty since Obama took office. In Ohio, the average is 14.6 percent.

Instead of addressing what should be done to fix the economy, a top Obama Administration official, acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank, attempted to justify the president's policies. "If President Obama (had) not taken swift and aggressive action to grow our economy and create jobs, (the) report would have shown much higher poverty rates ..."

Nonsense. A sound fiscal policy - one that would begin the process of bringing the nation's out-of-control debt under control - would be a good start in helping the economy, followed by bringing federal regulatory agencies such as the EPA under control.

As it stands now, all Obama's policies are doing is driving America deeper into poverty.
