Don Smith

SMITH, Don "Whitey," 74, of Moundsville, WV died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at home.

He was born March 7, 1938 in Martins Ferry, OH.

He retired in 1988 as Captain with the Moundsville Police Department, after 27 years of service, and in 2008 from Marshall County Schools, as a bus driver with 21 years of service.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Moundsville; F.O.P; Marshall Union 8 AF&AM; Little Prince Lodge 79, Knights of Pythias, an 18yr. member and past President of Marshall County Fair Board , past President of the WV State Fairs and Festivals Board; past President of WV Coon Hunters Assoc. and a WV Realtor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Grace Turner Farley; and a brother, Thomas Farley, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Maxine Strahl Smith; four sons, Terry (Shirley) Koontz of Wheeling, WV, Ronald (Beth) Koontz of Bellaire, OH, Don (Samantha) Smith of Charleston, WV, and Mark (Linda) Smith of Moundsville; a daughter, Patty Smith of Wheeling; and special family, Bonnie whom he loved as a daughter, and her husband, Bob Verbosky and their sons, Justin and Gaven; 12 grandchildren, Jeff (Stacie) Koontz of Wheeling, Josh (Natalie) Koontz of Canonsburg, PA, Jeremy (Dawn) Koontz of Buckhannon, WV, Eric (Rena) Koontz of St. Clairsville, Erin Koontz of Wheeling, Jason Koontz of Bellaire, Kit Smith and Travis Smith of Moundsville; Jessica and Kayla Daugherty of Moundsville and Abigail & Kate Storch of Charleston, WV; and ten great- grandchildren, Shelby, Isaac, and Zoey Koontz, Jack Koontz, Resa and Jonah Koontz, Skyler and Cameron Koontz, and Cayden and Aiken Davis; and several nieces and nephews Family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 until the time of the Memorial Service at 4 p.m. at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, with Pastor Jeff Benedict officiating.
