Harriet Fisher

FISHER, Harriet Virginia, 94, of Benwood, WV, died Friday, October 5, 2012 in the Peterson Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

She was born on April 15, 1918 in Mt. Olivet, WV, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Wilhelmina Elizabeth Sengewalt Fisher, Sr.

Miss Fisher retired after 42 years with the Salvation Army serving in many capacities including secretary, social worker and unit director in the Wheeling area as well as in Nashville, TN, Birmingham, AL, Charlotte, NC, and Baltimore, MD. After retirement she worked two years for the United Way, Wheeling, performing clerical duties.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, Ruth Fisher, Edith Dunnlevy, Violet June Henning, Mabel Ivanora Foster, Clara Beucke, Roberta Bishop and Zelda Hediger; two brothers, Harry W. Fisher, Jr. and Robert S. Fisher.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary Maruca and her husband, Richard, of Wheeling, Nancy Matthews and her husband, Theodore, of Brilliant, OH and Anna Knollinger of Wheeling, WV. Also surviving, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great- great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Monday, October 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 36th and Jacob St., South Wheeling (304-232-4060) where services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Hoff officiating. Interment in Allen Grove Cemetery, Sherrard, WV.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Day Home League, 3333 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
