STENDER, Janet H., 87, of Wheeling died on Thursday, October, 18, 2012.
She was born May 12, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frank Keenan and Ethel Heneitta Hellen Keenan.
Janet received her nursing degree from Crouse Irving School of Nursing in 1947. She worked with returning soldiers in World War II. She began her career as a registered nurse at Martins Ferry Hospital in pediatrics and geriatrics. She also worked as a private duty nurse and in private practice for a local physician during her career. She was a past member of St John's Episcopal Church in Wheeling where she served on the altar guild.
Janet was an avid reader and shopper. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting. Her hobbies included playing bridge, canasta, and spoiling her grand and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are: three daughters, Carol Watson and her husband, Jim of Wheeling, Cindy Wade and her husband, Ken of Burke VA and Cathy Stender and David Gold of Raleigh, NC: five grandchildren, Jason Watson and his wife, Courtney of Coshton, OH, Matthew Watson and his wife, Victoria of Raleigh, NC, and Sam and Anna Wade of Burke, VA, and Abbey Gold of Raleigh, NC: a great-grandson, Clayton Watson, and several nieces and nephews Friends will be received on Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, National Rd at Bethany Pike, Wheeling (304 232- 2732) The Reverend Richard Skaggs will be officiating. Interment in Park View Memorial Gardens, Wheeling, WV 26003.
