DRAGOUN, Joseph V., 80, of Steubenville, OH, died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Trinity West.
He was born in Dillonvale, OH, on January 21, 1934, the son of the late Joseph F. and Frances Mollinger Dragoun.
Joseph was retired from Cooper Power Systems of Canonsburg, Pa., as an industrial engineer. He was also the owner and manager of the Tri-State Bridge Club. Joseph was a Diamond Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League, past president of District 5 of the American Contract Bridge League, member of Steubenville Elks Lodge (B.P.O.E.), Steubenville Big Red Boosters Club and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of Steubenville High School. class of 1952; and scorekeeper and statistician for the Steubenville High School boys' basketball team since the 1996-1997 season. He also scored several girls varsity games and had scored sectional and district tournament games at the Steubenville Arena. He was named by Steubenville High School as the official historian of Steubenville High School Basketball. On March 8, 2008 he received the "Distinguished Service Award" from the District 5 Basketball Coaches Association at the Hall of Fame Banquet. He has worked for Steubenville High School head boys basketball coaches Fred Heatherington, Dave Retton, Jeff Moore, Mark Masloski and Mike Haney.
Joseph is survived by his son, Vincent (Melanie) Dragoun of Wintersville, OH, and his granddaughter, Acacia Dragoun of Steubenville, OH.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH, on Monday 4-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Nau officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery.
