"Buses ... Start 'em Rolling in Moundsville!!" is the Ohio Valley Regional Transportation Authority's theme in an effort to have a bus levy passed on Tuesday.
The OVRTA this past week ran an insert in the News-Register and The Intelligencer outlining the proposed route to serve Moundsville, along with listing times of the eight runs.
There was a recent meeting held in Moundsville attended by several business owners who would like to have bus service extended to Grand Vue Park, and they were informed that this could become a reality if voters pass the levy.
Also, at a Neighborhood Association meeting this past week, information was distributed on how much property owners, both residential and business, in the city of Moundsville would pay to have buses run between Moundsville and Wheeling.
For example, if the market value of a house is $100,000, and like all properties in the state, that property is assessed at $60,000, and based on a levy rate of $.0864, the property owner would pay $4.32 per month. The rate for a business is doubled, and thus a business property with the same market value would pay $8.64 a month.
Voters in the city of Moundsville on Tuesday will be electing four members to city council, along with deciding the issue of bus service between the city and Wheeling.
While incumbent first ward Councilman Paul "Dude" Haynes and incumbent third ward Councilman Eugene "Coach" Saunders are unopposed, five persons are seeking two council-at-large seats. They are: Carl Boso, Henry Cross, David Haynes, K. Mark Simms and Rickey Young.
Marshall County voters will be electing two members to the House of Delegates from the 4th Delegate District. Three individuals are seeking the two seats: Republican David A. Evans incumbent Mike Ferro, and David Sidiropolis, the latter two being Democrats.
On the county level, Bob Miller Jr., and incumbent Jason "Jake" Padlow are candidates for County Commission.
The sheriff's race is between Democrat Kevin Cecil and Republican Patrick R. Mull.
