Voters in Harrison and much of Belmont County helped keep Ohio Rep. Andy Thompson as their voice in the new 95th District in the Ohio House.
Thompson, R-Marietta, bested Democrat Charlie Daniels of St. Clairsville in the race.
Thompson captured 25,496 votes across several East Ohio counties, while Daniels earned 22,698.
Thompson, 49, currently represents the 93rd Ohio House District.
He is the publisher of Bird Watcher's Digest.
Prior to being elected to his first term in the Ohio House in 2010, he served as the area action council chairman for the National Federation of Independent Business Chapter in Marietta, and as a Marietta city councilman.
"Ohio's finances have improved substantially over the past year, but there are concerns looming, due to the national economy's weakness, the expected costs of Obamacare if it's not repealed, and of course our long-term liabilities. The good news is our investments are performing, leading to an upgrade (twice) in our state's credit ratings."
Thompson noted the Ohio General Assembly has passed legislation providing the "proper oversight" to the oil and gas industry in terms of disclosure laws, and regarding injection wells.
"The property owners benefiting from this boom should not be punished, nor should this new-found wealth be redistributed to other parts of the state, including Columbus. We're just now seeing the positive impacts of all of this investment."
And balancing the budget without raising taxes sent the right signal during the 129th General Assembly, he continued.
Daniels, 49, worked 18 years as a correctional officer at the Belmont Correctional Institution.
He spent six years in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
