Leo Smith

SMITH, Leo Bernard, Jr., 66, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, in Wheeling Hospital.

Leo was born September 26, 1946 in Wheeling, a son of the late Leo B. Smith Sr. and Mary (Campbell) Smith.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; the American Legion, Earl Francis Post No. 3, Moundsville; and was a U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran.

In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James Smith.

He is survived by his two children, Dawn Baysal and John Munday, both of Wheeling; three sisters, Mary Ann Fowler of Colerain, Ohio, Patricia Link of Bellaire, Ohio and Kathy Smith of Lake Alfred, Fla.; a brother, Don Smith and his wife, Debbie of Lake Alfred, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jaimie, Matthew, Taryn, Jack, Caroline and Joel; four great-grandchildren, Tamara, Anthony, Jaiden and Jonathan Gregory; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m, Thursday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 6 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. John P. Mulcahy as celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, with full military honors provided by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Leo's grandchildren's tuition for Catholic education, c/o Sharon Ballard, 127 Gracie Drive, Wheeling, WV 26003.
