THOMPSON, Robert M., 81, of Weirton, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, November 15, 2012 with his wife, Barbara, at his side.
He was born April 30, 1931 in Follansbee, WV to the late John M. and Eva Tulenchik Thompson.
Bob graduated from Follansbee High School in 1949, where he was a member of the track team. He was a proud Navy Veteran, serving from 1949-1953.
Prior to starting his career with Weirton Steel, he was employed at the former Hazel Atlas Glass in Wheeling. Bob was a very dedicated Weirton Steel employee, having served as production supervisor in various areas of the mill. With 33 years of service, he retired from the Tin Mill Department.
During his life, he enjoyed gardening, fishing with his children, golfing with his son, being a handy-man at his children's homes, attending his grandchildren's activities and playing cards at the Weirton Senior Center. The family is grateful that the Lord blessed him with a healthy and happy life.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Z. Lutz Thompson, whom he married October 18, 1958; children, Pamela S. (Don) Lizon of Wellsburg, Jeffrey W. Thompson of Waldorf, MD, Scott R. (Terri) Thompson of Colliers and Gregory J. (Leona) Thompson of Morgantown, WV; and sister, Dorothy J. Hinerman of Weirton. Bob was very proud of his seven grandchildren, Meredith, Melissa and Jonathan Hood, Allison, Madison, Noah and Joseph Thompson. He will be missed by his canine buddy "Hunter."
Friends will be received Sunday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. The Reverend George Romage will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee.
The Thompson family is very appreciative of Dr. Meisner's care and the love and support of their many friends.
