ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Those aiming to personalize their gifts this holiday season may only need look as far as the recipient's name.

There are several screen printing and embroidery shops in the region that can help personalize a jersey, shirt or other item with a loved one's name. For example, Linda Shepherd, owner of Sew Biz, located at the Fox Commerce Park in St. Clairsville, said she can custom embroider and reverse applique items for purchase at her store, or people can bring in items to be embroidered. She also can iron lettering onto single T-shirts, jerseys and more.

"We can embroider just about anything - blankets, quilts, bags, quilted purses, baby blankets" and more, she noted.

"Sometimes for a mother or grandmother they want something extra like a flower with the name. We have hundreds of designs. It depends on what you have in mind," Shepherd said.

Sew Biz, located at 67075 Executive Drive, St. Clairsville, is open from 8-4 p.m. Monday-Friday at Fox Commerce Park. Shepherd said for Christmas, she typically takes orders until Dec. 10, though sometimes she can squeeze in last-minute orders after that date.

"We can accommodate just about anything. Just stop in and look," she added.

At the Ohio Valley Mall, Things Remembered has a variety of keepsake items and jewelry that can be engraved with a loved one's name or a special message.

And for those who live in the Wheeling area, Howard's Diamond Center at The Highlands in Ohio County is selling a custom-made silver bead for bracelets that is shaped like the Suspension Bridge in Wheeling. Seth Posin, Howard's owner, said the bead would be the perfect gift for anyone who admires the historic bridge, local history buffs, current Wheeling residents or those who have moved away from the area.

"It recognizes one of Wheeling's iconic images," he noted.

Posin said Howard's plans to have more Wheeling icon beads produced in the future. The next bead idea will be chosen via a contest, he said.

Any gift can be special if the buyer goes that extra mile to purchase something the recipients really want but never seem to buy for themselves. How about a customized mailbox with someone's favorite sports team logo or a garden angel. Whimsical night lights or book reading lights are practical yet fun, too. Personalized golf towels and tees are great for the golfers on your gift list.

Piggy banks are not just for kids, but adults often collect change as well. Why not give them a coin sorter or an interesting piggy bank.
