Editor, News-Register:

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you from the St. John's Home for Children in Elm Grove, to the community for your support of our annual "Pitch for Kids" cornhole tournament. The tournament was held on Oct. 13 at Wheeling Jesuit University. A special thank you to Wheeling Jesuit for the use of your beautiful facilities. Thank you to Little Ceasar's Pizza, Riesbeck's Food Market and Wheeling Jesuit Parkhurst Food Service for providing refreshments for our event. Thank you to Lamar Advertising for the discounted electronic billboard.

We couldn't have had this event without our corporate sponsors and individual donors: Advantage Payroll Services, Aladdin Food Management Services, Ancient Order of Hibernians, BB&T Bank, Bethany College School of Social Work, Bodkin, Wilson & Kozicki, Chris Freeman/Riverwealth Services, CFPN, Corpus Christi Knights of Columbus, Fahey Insurance, Tom and Kathy Furbee, Gumby's, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Kiwanis Club of Wheeling, McCormick Family, Dr. Michael Medovic, D.D.S.; Pennybacker Lawn Service, Ray Tomassene, Jared Buck, Lauren Buck and Marichris Pangilinan, and the St. John's Home for Children Board of Directors. Finally, thank you to all of the participants who came out to play cornhole. Congratulations to this year's winners, Rick Hollandsworth and Chad Kociban.

What began as an orphanage 156 years ago, the St. John's Home for Children, today ministers to boys ages 8 to 14 from throughout West Virginia who are the victims of abuse and neglect or who display behavioral issues. More than 6,000 cases of child abuse are reported each year in West Virginia. The St. John's Home of Children collaborates with several West Virginia agencies to provide care to our most vulnerable population - our children. We recognize that these are difficulties times for everyone financially. We are so grateful and blessed for all of the community support we have received.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, families, and boys that we serve, thank you once again for your kindness and generosity. For more information please visit us on the web at www.stjohnshomeforchildren.org.
