MARKWAS, Martha Ann Kuropatwa, 91, of Wheeling died Saturday, December 1, 2012, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 2, 1921, in Wheeling, WV, the daughter of the late Joseph and Antonette Majeski Kuropatwa.
She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling, the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, a member of the Ladies Guild, Holy Rosary Society and the St. Hedwig Society.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Chester S. Markwas, a son Walter F. Markwas, twin daughters, Mary and Martha Markwas, grandson, Andrew Szerszen, four sisters, Sylvia Kuropatwa, Mary Brzozowski, Christine Kussy & Lillian Kuropatwa, two brothers Fred and Steve Kuropatwa.
Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia A. Szerszen and Dennis P. Kopyar of Triadelphia, WV; two grandsons Michael E. Szerszen and his fiance, Kristin Keve of Cincinnati, Walter F. Markwas and wife, Michelle of Riverview FL, a sister, Helen Moczek of Wheeling, a great-grandson, Travis Markwas of Riverview a great-granddaughter, Raeshell Stephens and her husband, Shawn, of Ramstein, Germany; God-child and niece, Eleanor J. DiProsperis and several other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 12-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 36th and Jacob Street South Wheeling, (304) 232-4060. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Frank O'Kruta as celebrant. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, Wheeling.
