Alma Starcovice

STARCOVIC, Alma Virginia Shires, 88, of Moundsville, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, in Cameron Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born January 16, 1924, in Alderson, WV, the daughter of the late Elmo James and Nellie Rose Neil Shires.

She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, WV, where she earned her RN; began her career at Cleveland, where she met her husband, John and was married in 1951.

She had a long career at Reynolds Memorial Hospital and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John S. Starcovic and two sisters, Betty and Nell.

Survivors include three children, Daniel Starcovic of Deland, FL, Ann Marie (Joel) Imholte of St. Cloud, MN, and Steve (Kim) Starcovic of Cameron; five grandchildren, Tajah, Tania, Sarah, Angelica, and Adam; two great-grand children, Sophie and Callie; and a brother, James (Lillie) Shires of Iron Gate, VA.

Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, where Rosary Devotions will be recited Sunday at 6 p.m.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 610 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville with Fr. Ranjan Ekka and Fr. Prakash Sebastian as co-celebrants.

Entombment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or St. Martin of Tours, c/o St. Joseph, 65 Frohnapfel Lane, Proctor, WV 26055.
